Mind-Body Lab at Virginia Tech

The Mind-Body Lab, part of the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech, is under the direction of Dr. Bruce Friedman.

In our lab, we use psychophysiological methods to explore the mind-body relationship. Our work is primarily focused on the relationships between emotions, personality, and autonomic nervous system activity. Current research includes topics such as anxiety, worry, stress, and trauma in relation to physiological activity; autonomic specificity of emotion; and threat / defensive behavior.

Mind-Body Lab research is both basic and applied in nature and spans the domains of psychophysiology and behavioral-psychosomatic medicine. Non-invasive psychophysiological measures are used, such as heart rate variability, impedance cardiography, blood pressure, skin conductance, and startle responses.
